30 development projects at ports

The Union Ministry of Shipping has finalised an action plan for the financial year with 30 development projects at various ports worth Rs 24,633 crore.

Addressing a gathering of the EXIM fraternity from South India at the TCC Exim Achievement Awards function, organised by the Tamil Chamber of Commerce and Chozha Naachiar Foundation in the city recently, Union Shipping Minister G K Vasan said that his ministry had finalised an action plan to bring additional capacity of 288.48 Million Metric Tonne Per Annum (MMTPA).


Vasan said that steps taken by the Ministry in the last few years were showing excellent and positive results. As a result of various efforts and with the active participation of private sector, Indian port sector would grow stronger, said Vasan.

He said that ports were the gateway for EXIM trade and any deficiency would greatly affect the county’s EXIM trade and competitiveness for industries.
