Suez Canal is still a delicate area due to civil strife in Egypt

Aug 27,2013

Suez Canal operations are currently unaffected by civil strife, but risk is growing due to violence spreading across Egypt and no end being seen in the near future

The opposition and the Government are toughening their resolve to intensify the stir and put it down with military might respectively.

SUEZ Canal transits and port operations continue as normal, unaffected by the widespread rioting, but a higher level of caution is advised, reports GAC Hot Port News.

"In view of developing situation, subject to updates, GAC Egypt recommends suspending crew changes/spares delivery and other similar operations until further notice. Owners and operators with vessels at Egyptian ports are urged to take further protective measures in addition to standard safety procedures," its report said.
